thanks for the help. okay because i am going to buy gtx 1660 sup in a couple of days and i just want to make sure its runs decent on a i5 processor. sorry i am new to pc.

Assuming it's a modern i5 yes but an old one like an i5 2400 will limit the card heavily

depending on which i5 you have, you may not get as many fps as you would with a newer one, but my recommendation is to run it at a higher graphics setting, since the gpu can pic up the slack

It will. That's a very old and low clocked i5. It needs an upgrade to a modern Ryzen CPU

It's not like it won't work, he'll still be able to game with some cpu setting set down. I'd still recommend a cpu or even whole system upgrade, which the 1660S will be a good card with everything refreshed

I mean, he's looking at performance similar to a modern Pentium/Athlon - he will definitely have stutters in modern games on a low clocked 4-thread CPU

If you're on a budget, the Ryzen 3 3100 paired with an inxpensive B450 board such as the ASRock B450 Pro4 and 8 or 16 gigabytes of 3000MHz RAM is ideal. Total should come in around 250$

If that's too expensive, consider buying a used Ryzen 5 1600 and used ASRock B350 Pro4 and used DDR4 3000 RAM. That should run you 150$ or so

I don't think the 3100 and 3300x support b450 out of box, even with the ryzen 3000 ready boards, but b550 should be out soon.

90% of stores offer free BIOS update services. You just drop a ticket with your order and it's done.

Sounds good. Feel free to post again once you're buying the CPU - we'll help out as best we can :)

Don't forget you'll need new ram as well.

They do, the BIOS requirement for those CPUs is the same as all other Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 ones according to most motherboards CPU support listings. But I do think waiting for B550 would be better anyway.
