Replacement for my HP Omen

Accidentally dropped my omen 15 down the stairs when I stumbled, so need to replace it. With 10th gen and Ryzen 4K out or coming soon what does people think? In the UK with about 1500-2000 would prefer something rtx2070 or so, but use it for gaming/vr/premiere for the main part, might think of 17,but Prob 15 for being able to edit on travels (when we can travel again)

Was thinking maybe a GS66 or with a bit better 'value' maybe 3XS Vengeance RTX (from overclockers, it's one of the rebranded ones, can't remember the original brands name, maybe tongfang or clevo? Edit almost certainly a Clevo) or an Alienware m15/m17 (10thgen maybe unless 9th gen are heavy discounted when they launch 22nd)

I'm not particularly worried about bulk weight too much, but would rather not have a brick as do travel with it (hence maybe not 17)

Thanks all

Hello and welcome.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.  Have you seen the videos on the new Dell XPS 17?  I wanna say you can get one equipped with a 2070 and 10th gen.

I have tried the configuration, but can't seem (in UK at least) to get 10thgen and 2070,but maybe that's just the UK at the moment. Dell can be slow on updating us 😊

Edit : yup just re checked 1650ti top model on 15,and 17 not listed

Sorry I was going to edit my post -- I just read the 17 isn't going to be released until the summer and I think it's gonna be expensive configured as you'd like it.

Yeah just looked, 17 awol at the moment, new 15 is hella expensive with top model and that's only 1650ti.

Might wait to see the new m15/m17 on 22nd when launched, just getting sick of using the HP 850g3 i5 backup laptop now 😂

I'm not sure how tech capable you or or are interested in becoming but likely there are still salvagable parts in that PC that you can re-use if you were to get a slightly lower spec'd prebuilt then swap in the better still good parts from yours. Typically the graphics cards in those systems is braced and secured very well and may be fine, likely the PSU is ok as well since it's bolted down hard, the motherboard may also be OK as long as the CPU cooler remained mounted and nothing dislodged from it, and the stick of RAM is probably fine as long as it's still in the socket and nothing struck it. The likely causality would be the mechanical hard drive and case itself. The NVME SSD mounted to the board would be like RAM, fine if it's still mounted and nothing hit it. If you can post some photos of the system we may be able to help you pick out which parts are OK and which are not which could save you a bit of money going forward, if you're interested.

Otherwise there's likely people who would be interested in purchasing the system as is for the potential to salvage components. There's a youtuber who might be interested in the hardware who's also in the UK. https://www.youtube.com/user/RandomGaminginHD/about

I'm techy, Devops Architect for a living, I've pulled the (already replaced) 2tb nvme out of it, the 32gb ram (although only 2666) but that's about all that was any good (oh grabbed the WiFi as well, but meh) it was a 2018 omen though, so on 8th gen Intel. Insurance has the chassis now as they took to try repair, but had busted screen and wouldn't power on and is 'possibly' a dead regulator system.

So the important stuff is pulled, and the nvme will go in the new one so wouldn't mind a lappy that has at least 2 nvme slots.

You know, for some reason I assumed you were talking about an HP Omen desktop tower system. Their desktop and laptop naming scheme is too similar, the desktop is a 25L and the laptop is a 15, not in the least confusing! Pardon my stupidity!

Seems as the overclocker one is a clevo, had a look on pcspecialist and get a slightly upgraded version for same money,

10875H, 32GB, 1TB, RTX2070Super

Think I'm going that way on Monday. Unless anyone has any information on Clevo's and doubt over their abilities?

Ordered one from pcspecialist

17.3" VYPER
10875H with ARCTIC MX-4

RTX 2070 SUPER
32GB Corsair 2666MHz
1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (have a 2TB Samsung Evo that will become second, and a 1TB Sabrent that I'll use for boot, so this will go in external caddy)

£1800ish so I'm happy, just hope that the Clevo/TF chassis is decent.
