HI, this is my first post...

 

I am currently a high school senior going to college this year, and i need help

 

cpu: a8-3870k oc (3.4ghz)

mobo: asrock a75 extreme6

ram: 4gb gskill 1866

gpu: 7770

 

   My question is, should i upgrade my gpu to an r9 270x and get 8gb of ram? OR upgrade my mobo and cpu to a Haswell core i5 with same gpu and ram?

This is a tough choice... Personally I would go with a nice mobo and an i5, if I were you.

I would upgrade to a Haswell i5, motherboard and another 4GB of RAM.

I'd upgrade MoBo and CPU, honestly. 7770 is a decent little GPU for most games. If gaming is what this computer is mainly used for, that is.

if you're satisfied with the 7770 for the games you play now, it's a waste to upgrade. 

If I were you for now I would just buy 4gb of ram because it's cheap and you'll be able to open up a lot more tabs in chrome :P

im not satisfied. im not getting good fps in game like planetside 2 and arma 3. And i dont know if its my CPU. Or my GPU. but i can only upgrade one or the other. not both

If your doing games, sell the 7770 grab something like  750ti or 760, and upgrade the ram.

 

Otherwise, grab an i5 and new mobo and ram.

arma 3 is ridiculously demanding (and unoptimized). I wouldn't buy a 260x though and instead save and buy a 270x on sale. A 260x is a rebranded 7790 which is not that good a GPu, while a 270 is a muuuuch better and faster 7870.

I'm getting decent frame rates in Arma 2/Dayz with my 7870 so I would say an R9 270x is a good match.

It's probably a bit of both. AMD's apus are lackluster in performance and the 7770 is a terrible card for gaming.

cpus dont bottleneck cards, games can sometimes require more from a cpu than it can deliver, depends on the game, everyone gets this wrong.
