After a long time I finally decided to make my first pc...

I used all budget parts coming to around $~800

Ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660 Super...

works okay but I made the extremely stupid decision to plug a wrong key m.2/NGFF card into a nvme m.2 port on the motherboard while powered on...

I know kinda stupid the computer shutdown automatically and when I turned it on everything worked fine...

Then it kept bothering me if I had damaged something and I just didn't know it (PCIE lanes??? the m.2 slot??? etc).

Before that I had run Unigine Heaven on like x4 antialiasing and most max settings and everything looked fine.

I decided to run heaven again after the unfortunate accident and it looked good but when I bumped it up to x8 anti-aliasing all the grass turned blue.

I am unsure why this is and if this is a problem caused by the previous incident (I have attached a photo of the blue grass)

2. is there any way to check what pcie standard (or whatever you call it my gpu is running in) like gen3x16 or gen3x8

Jesus Christ.

Serious..how on Earth did you came to the Idea to plug something in a running Computer?

Thats beyond me.

Thats the perfect method to damage your hardware. In the worst case, it could also damage YOU.

Reinstall the Graphics Driver and see if this does anything

Maybe you are very lucky.

Why would you try to plug something into the computer when it it STILL ON / RUNNING??

That is like sticking your hand under the lawn mower when it's still on and cutting...

It's hard to say, since the M.2 slot's PCI-E 3.0 X4 lanes are coming from the CPU, any part of the CPU / Motherboard / Graphics Card / M.2 Drive can be damaged.

Since those M.2 lanes are from the CPU, it might have damaged the CPU, affecting the other 16 lanes going from the CPU to the graphics card.

The CPU might be okay, but something might have shorted on the Graphics Card when you tried to plug the M.2 drive in when the computer is still running.

That, or the motherboard got damaged.

Long story short, you'll have to test easy component individually, to find out that is bad, and what is good.

Run GPU-Z, while Unigen Heaven is running, see what speed your Graphics Card is running at.

Just Tried reinstalling the drivers but nothing has improved... This happens only on the benchmark though not on games

I tried reinstalling the drivers and it does look like its running at the correct speed... The Blue Grass artifact only appears when I have Ambient Occlution turned on and its running at x8 anti-aliasing... This artifact is also not visible in games... Is there any way to test pcie lanes except for filling it up with expantions...

I like the phrase “unfortunate accident” very careful use of the presidential passive. “ mistakes were made”

There is a point though.  It’s water under the bridge.  Got to deal with what is in front of one.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
