So my brother and I are putting together a new comp for my dad and we were going to do a 3200g build, but he has a spare 1700x he wants to use. We are looking for a cheap/functional gpu to pair with it. Any advice? Will be checking evga midweek madness. The ones I have seen that are recent are like the gt 710 or 730 or like the 1050 maybe. I think the 1050 may be overkill. This is just an office pc.

Don't get a GT card even just for an office PC. If you can spend just a hair more get a budget AMD Card Like this

Open box/ Used in that price range will give you a LOT more bang for your buck. Even just for an Office Pc. Spend $30 more and make it worth it.

Spoiler

i7-6700k OC'd 4.5Ghz, Noctua NH-D15, EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1070 SC

The old Quadro line is perfect. The K2000 fits the bill

Not looking for used. Are the graphics on something like a 730 that bad for non gaming?

They're just crappy cards that aren't reliable and not powerful. The only time they are to be used is if you need more video outputs or the onboard video outputs break. They are not meant to actually be used for any sort of actual processing.  And the link I posted was not for a used product it was new. Just like this one

I’m not really budget limited, it’s just not a gpu meant for gaming so I would like to not waste money and put a $100-150 gpu In it

If your willing to go used

Something like a 280x is going for  roughly 40 bucks or maybe something like kepler

The 1700x is still great so unlees no one is using it

You can utilize it but I still recommend like a ryzen 1200af going for 50 bucks which will get you an apu and a pretty good cpu for what it is

I agree with the user above, going 40-50$ on an RX 280X used on Ebay is wroth for an Office PC. But if you don't want used, you can get an XFX RX 560 for 99$.
