Was this a bad Idea

I recently purchased an Hp MV2100 series NAS off the facebook marketplace FOR CHEAP(came with 2 1tb drives all for $30). Ive been wanting to make a NAS server, and thought this would be a fun toy. Ive been messing around with it for a couple hours now, and so far this thing is oudated, and hot garbage. Anyone know if there's a way I could flash new software onto this, or anything I can do with this to make it usable?????

Looks like its running linux, can you get a shell?

Seems to be possible to get a serial port added to it.

But since its not x86 its gonna be a pain to get any modern os working on it.

How would I go about adding a serial port?

I remember a friend of mine had the exact same problem, they added a proprietary connector to make sure people would have the hardest time connecting to the damn thing. Check ebay for adapter cables, some people have had all the headaches for you already.

Standard operational procedure for HP is to make everything proprietary and make absolutely sure to train the indian tech support dude to know nothing about your product but try to sell you a support plan over the phone. Nice little NAS, too bad it won't play ball even when you break in.
