Good old CX600

Go to solution Solved by MG2R,

@MG2R sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant that if I connected it to my motherboard, the fan speed won't increase or decrease relatively to the temperature of the PSU.

Nope, it won't. The temp of your PSU is dependant on the system load, though. So, if you ramp up or down the fan together with the CPU temp (which is also load dependant), it should be fine. If you are going to only utilize the GPU's with the CPU running at idle, it might be a bit of a problem. Then again, at ~40% speed, the NF-F12's are still whisper quiet and they should provide enough airflow to keep the CX600 cool no matter what (I think)

Hello everyone, I have a CX600 from CORSAIR, and it is pretty noisy, so I was wondering whether or not it had a fan regulation system or if the fan always runs at full speed. Inside the PSU, the fan connector is a 2 pin connector (pwm like, not molex) now I know that 4pin is PWM, 3pin is Voltage regulation (3rd pin=fan speed) but I was wondering if you could have a voltage regulated 2pin fan?

Thank you to both, does anyone know of a "clean way" to convert a 4pin PWM fan to a 2pin fan (remove the other two unneeded wires)?

Clip them, or just don't bother with them (if the plug will fit).

Actually, the thing I recommend now is just to break out the complete fan cable to the motherboard. That way, you have complete control over your fan profile ;)

@tmcclelland455 what do you mean by clip them? and no, the connector won't fit on it's own.

@MG2R I fear of doing this as if I miss configure the fan profile I could break my PSU.

Clip the wires. Leave the black and red wires.

Consider this: I'm using my NF-F12 on the lowest fan speed at almost all times. It never goes above 40-ish%. This is with a 3570K and a GTX 670. It should be fine.

@MG2R do you use your PSU fan connected to the motherboard?

The fan in my PSU is connected and controlled by the motherboard.

And if I went that route the fan wouldn't be regulated?

Sorry, I don't understand.
