Hey there, wanted to drop this really quickly asking what people thought the best go to controller was on a pc. I am particularly fond of the xbox controller layout and feel more than a ps4 but I was unsure on brand wise. I know Scuf is probably pretty up there but could use some recommends and info

I use a ps4 controller because I'm used to the shape and feel of it from when I was a kid playing on the original playstation. Xbox controllers might be good as well. Not sure about other alternatives, I've tried some off-brand controllers and they weren't compatible with some games I wanted to try.

Honestly, the Steam Controller has made every other gamepad I've touched feel like banging rocks together in a cave. I absolutely cannot use an XBox, Playstation, or any other twin-stick controller now without constantly thinking about what an awful input method analog sticks are for most of the games I play nowadays.

Of course, Steam discontinued it because so few people even gave it a chance... So I guess Xbox One or Elite controller.

An alternative is the Wii U Pro controller. It's powered by the 3DS battery so it has something like an 80 hour battery life. It's one that I use since I own them for my WIi U already. If you're used to the xbox controller, then it might be annoying to use since the right joystick is in a different place and they use the same labels for the 4 buttons (x,y,a,b) but have labeled differently. The Switch Pro controller is another alternative and it swaps the joystick back to be like the Xbox is, but the 4 buttons are still labeled differently. The trigger buttons are also not analog on both. If you like the Xbox layout, then just go for one of those controllers.

I have one as well. I got it when they dropped the price to offload them all. I have mixed feelings about it. I love the long (up to 80 hour) battery life. I also like how configurable it is and that you can download profiles from the community for each game to make setting it up easy. I've been using it to play BOTW since it has a gyro in it and my Wii U Pro controller doesn't. The two pads are a steep learning curve, but I'm getting used to the right one for camera movement. I'm still not seeing the usefulness of the left one, probably because the games I play don't really need that type of control and it just feels like a wonky d pad. I'm not that fond of how close the right trackpad is to the 4 buttons. I consistently hit the trackpad when I go to hit the y or b button, which is very annoying.

Valve recently applied for a patent for a controller that allows for swapping of the buttons so the current rumor is that they might make a second controller with the ability to configure the front.

Also the elite version has metal behind the buttons So it doesn’t wear away unlike the normal Xbox controller which has plastic behind the buttons And wear away a year later
