Linus has done an In-Desk build and a mineral oil build but what if we combine them? The new i9 10th gen is coming out and I want him to make a cool video instead of just reviewing it. I want to build a PC (switch from gaming laptop) and thought I could do this. It's going to take a lot of planning. I thought I'd post here just in case Linus was interested. I'd obviously pay for the parts. This isn't a handout post. Do you guys have any thoughts and ideas? Anything will help. Layout, tips and tricks... thanks.

There’s a section for video suggestions to should probably put this there.   As for a mineral oil desk that would involve a gigantic custom built desk shaped aquarium tank.   I’m not sure that makes a lot of sense.  Easier to just watercool.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Might be.  Seems like a lot of money to spend.  Giant custom aquarium tanks are fantastically expensive.  Tens of thousands according to what I’ve seen on that aquarium reality show.  And to achieve effectively nothing.

I mean, acrylic panel and silicon caulk/sealant aren’t that expensive, you could make it yourself pretty easily.

maintaining would be another problem though

The problem with big custom tanks is you can’t use just regular old 1/4” acrylic sheet.  Acrylic isn’t strong and liquid is heavy. 1” acrylic is often needed and the stuff is seriously expensive.

You could make a smaller container for just the pc that you can see through the surface of the desk, kinda like a cut out.

but damn I didn’t realize how much 1” acrylic was

I can't believe anyone is still considering a mineral oil pc case.

All the stuff I've seen is more of a proof of concept and people dicking about. There's probably a very good reason for the lack of commercially available kit.

In my opinion a well built desk with a custom loop is a far better option.

I concur.  Mineral oil has serious issues long term.  Mostly they have to do with the characteristics of mineral oil.  To replace a part you have to drip dry it, which takes no joke days.   Another is it seems impossible to get all of the sulphur out of mineral oil and sulfur makes plastics hard and brittle.  This wouldn’t be so bad except things like cables and tabs are made of plastic and supposed to be flexible.
