3800x low multi core performance- cpuz

Hello all, had a question about cpuz and low multi core scores. My stock ryzen 3800x is having some trouble producing a good multi core score on cpuz I’m down by over 100 points (same with cinebench) according to stock benchmarks, my multi core is 5389 On cpuz and single is 522 (which is pretty good for a stock 3800x) all background tasks are closed down and cpu is idling at 4% usage. I’m using the ryzen high performance plan on windows, and my ram Is 3200mhz infinity fabric at 1600 and timings at 16/17/17/17/34. If I attempt multicore overclock at 4.2 @ 1.36v I gain multi threaded performance but my single core performance tanks to 480 while the multi core is closer to 5500, pbo 10x scholar +200 95c thermal limit, the scores tank to 480/5100. I’ve tried everything I can think of in the bios, manually setting voltages, changing timings hoping ram was the cause (32gb Corsair vengeance michron d die) after 4.2 I start loosing score, my thermals while gaming stay around 68-72c and in cpuz stress up to 90c running for 1/2 a hour. Is there anything I can do or just take the decent single core performance and go with it

Ok, so for starters, running your 3800x at 1.36V is almost guarenteed to degrade your silicone and in turn your chip. Before you start doing manual OC's I suggest you look into finding the max safe voltage for your particular chip.

 

Secondly, I would use R20 for benchmarking, it's a lot better know, and you'll have better results.

 

As well, with Ryzen you're best off to not just overclock. It's pretty much pegged to the max anyways, and depending what you do, you'll likely/possible lose performance by manually OCing.

 

If you're interested in comparison, here's my little venture I took with manually OCing. I'd personally love to see if my chip is capable of 4.5Ghz, but I just don't bother with manually OCing, as it's just not worth it on Ryzen IMO.

 

As well what cooler are you running? Because honestly 4.35Ghz had BETTER temps than my stock chip. But regardless, you throwing 1.36V at your chip is going to run it HOT, and damage it.

@Statik Im just going off the information ive gotten from jays 2 cents he started out at 1.35v i figured id start around there, the stock voltages i seen on ryzen master were in the 1.48v range and consistently under load they were int eh 1.34-1.36 range, just alot of different info out there, and i have a corsair h60i with 2 corsair ll120 in a push pull, my cinebench r20 multi core test was 4626 84c and 4721 at 4.25.

i just ran cinebench after resetting the cmos with 3000mhz xmp and it was 4611... 84c cpu sits at 4074mhz all core 1.312v cpuz stats here https://valid.x86.fr/2tbk6f

I wouldn't necessarily listen to Jays. It's common knowledge that voltages over 1.325V can cause permanent damage to Ryzen CPUs, and some people reported even lower. When I was tinkering with OCs I personally didn't run my chip over 1.2875V, and I was able to achieve a stable 4.35Ghz OC with a R20 score of 5102, and a max temp of 68C.

 

What video was this Jays one you're following? And what CPU was he OCing? Because 1.35V is VERY high for a starting OC voltage on Ryzen. I was able to achieve 4.2Ghz all core on my 3800x with 1.2V...

 

I currently just run my chip stock with PBO + AutoOC, and I peak in the 70s while gaming on a 240mm AIO.

 

Your voltages are high because you're not in intensive workloads. Ryzen will spike its voltage in the 1.4-1.5V range in low intensity workloads to get the most performance out of your CPU. BUT that's short bursts to limited cores. If you sustain high voltages, you WILL damage your CPU and see ti degrade. There's countless threads/sources on this, and every chip is different, so I suggest you figure out yours unless you like playing with the fate of $500.

 

This is my data from my 3800x way back, and it's not very fine tuned. This was over the course of a few hours before I just went back to stock.

i think it was the 3900x he was working with, but thank you for the heads up ill just leave it alone, it seems for the frequency im running it seems to be preforming pretty close to what you posted for the r20 results, thank you for clearing this up,

Maybe I’m lacking in ram speed.. my multi core on cpuz is under 5400 points but singe core is 520.. weird
