Liquid Metal Drying Out

JaZoN_XD

Hey guys,

About a month ago I decided to try out LM for my GPU, the results were really great and temps went down quite a bit. However, lately I started noticing the temps getting hotter and hotter and eventually it was really terrible. I took the cooler apart and noticed that the LM looked quite dry. The coldplate is copper so it got a bit tainted. I took some 1000 grit and very very gently sanded it smooth. Didn't take off much material at all so height shouldn't be a problem. I reapplied LM and temps went back down to what I expected.

Does anyone know why this happened? Is it just because using LM for the first time so the coldplate will have some reaction to the LM? Is it possible I used too little LM? In GN's LM durability test there was basically no change after 1 year but this was only 1 month.

Thanks!

BRRRT!
