Need new PSU?

I was thinking of upgrading my computer with a i5-10600K or the Ryzen 5 4600? In simple words what ever 6-core manages to offer best performance or price but do I need a new PSU?

Found the PSU the question was all about around 3/5ths of the way through the multicolored hardware description.  
 

EVGA supernova G2 550w

 

Size is probably within reason for that hardware.  Even with the cpu overclock.  How old the PSU is is another question.

The 10th gen Intel chips will certainly draw a lot more power since you're planing to overclock the CPU. It's best to wait for both 10th gen Intel and and AMD 4000 series won't consume that much power compare to the Intel counter parts. Still a I'd advise to get a 650W 80+ gold PSU not just for the CPU but for future upgrade also (You will definitely need to upgrade the GPU too). A Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic PSU.

The EVGA G2 550w will be fine with a ryzen 5 or i5 CPU paired with the GTX 970. You can reuse the power supply in the new system.

2016 while the Cooler Master 650w backup is 2015...

Not really just want its fastest out of box one for now and maybe if ripping it apart and put it in a bigger case maybe later OC... (PSU will be a 750w of same model if that happen)

I do also have a older Cooler MASTER 650w GOLD it was retired since it could not handle a Vega 56 and FX-8370, but it's a tier below the EVGA G2...

Is this 'Where's Waldo' ?

 

If this is gaming PC then it should be fine. PSU itself are very good, main concern is power rating but you wouldn't find any PC pulling more than 400-450W in gaming.

3,5 votes for keep using it then? Umm can it be pressed up to a 8-core? Just in theory or is a hexa maximum?

It depends on power draw, not core count. Simple example, Intel 8-core 16-thread Core i9 9900Ks OC'd to 5GHz draws about 300W on MT load, pretty much the same as AMD's 32-core 64-thread Threadripper 3970X. Again, regardless of CPU, you're unlikely to encounter power draw of CPU alone higher than 100W, combine that with ~300W from OC'd RTX2080Ti or equivalent and that's just about 400W total.
