Lens Suggestion

Go to solution Solved by GDRRiley,

I'd look at grabbing a tamron or sigma 17-50 F2.8 used. new they look to be about 250 new

Hi all

Isolation is making me amazon window shop way too hard, anyway.

My canon 18-55 kit lens auto focus is on the way out, it works for a couple shots then just stops, if I leave the AF on and crank the focus wheel all the way to one end it comes back for a few more shots and then stops again, I don't use the lens very often so it never really crossed my mind to change it, however now that I am sitting here waiting for my job to come back I have been looking around, canon sell the exact same lens with built in I/S i think for £160 and I can't seem to find any decent alternatives for a similar price, so I'm wondering if it's worth it, it's not the best lens in the world but it's does the job nicely, my other ideas are either get the 24mm prime pancake thing as I already have a 50mm or just accept I am buying a lens and get a decent one, ie the 24-105mm which I know will be a much nicer lens but it's £350.

Thoughts and suggestions please!

Hope your all staying safe and away from bat soup!

they just are a much better lens than a canon kit.

if you were after more primes yongonuo 35mm isn't a bad prime. that with a 24mm pancake would be close to 200

I think personally if I can stick with one lens that can do a few jobs, that would be ideal as it means I have to carry less with me when I travel, really want to keep something in the teens for a wide option, hence why I want thinking about the "upgraded" 18-55, and tbh I am still thinking about that as I already have all the lens filters for the 58mm thread on it. I already have the 50mm and I have a 70-300mm too so just need something to keep that wide option open.

okay then look at the 17-50, 18-135.

adapters are super cheap to change the filter size.

I like the 17-50, so that might be what I go for, thanks!
