I’m using the Asus B450-F Gaming motherboard

Ah yes...this particular board only supports up to DDR4-3200 with a Ryzen 2000-series CPU.

Right on the StriX B450-F Gaming specifications page.

There *may* be a CPU IMC limitation, but right now, the motherboard is for-sure the limitation / restriction.

I just upgraded from 2x8 Corsair vengeance 3000mhz to G.skill tridentZ 3600mhz and I’m unable to set up the proper speed in my bios. I’ve tried taking out the cmos battery to reset as well as the CLRTC prongs to reset and it still limits me to 1600mhz. I have the ram sticks in slots 2&4 as instructed by the motherboard but every time I try to change the speed I end up getting the Ameri trends screen to boot up my bios because it reset my memory speed since it errored out. Can someone help please

I used the amd version as my first attempt then manually as my second attempt

In that case you can either try to tinker with it more and see if you could get it to run manually at higher voltages or lower frequencies or timings, or simply return the memory.

I don't know of any other option, but maybe someone else can deliver a bit more insight into this.

My friend said it’s possible that it doesn’t work with my Ryzen 7 2700x. I don’t know where to confirm that

Oh actually, now that you mention it, yes that can be the case!
For some reason I assumend you had a 3rd gen Ryzen. It's late over here 😛

You can check that on your motherboard's manufacturer QVL list.

It's a list that shows which memory has been tested with your motherboard and is known to work.

If your memory isn't on that list, it is not supported and therefor probably won't work.

Ryzen 2000 chips are also known to not necessarily support such high RAM speeds.

@Higgles What motherboard are you running the Ryzen 2700X with?

Ryzen 2000-series does not have as a robust Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) compared to Ryzen 3000-series.

You *may* be limited to around DDR4-3200 or DDR4-3400 because of the CPU...or combination of motherboard and CPU.

AMD Ryzen 9000 Rig

  • AMD R7 9800X3D + Alphacool CORE 1 w/ Performance Mount Kit + Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Frame
  • Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice

  • Sapphire NITRO+ 6800 XT Special Edition + EKwb Full Cover Block
  • Custom Loop w/ 2x 360mm Radiators
  • WD SN850X + WD SN750 + Samsung 980
