DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL

Hi LinusTechTips forum,

Earlier today, I reinstalled Windows 10 on my computer. Everything was going fine, I was downloading some drivers and out of nowhere a BSOD popped up. The error named: DRIVER  IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. It said that usb80236.sys caused it. I really want to know why did this happened. I was having a mouse, a USB drive and the tethering network from my phone plugged in.

Any help, thanks!

Has this happened again since or was it just one-timer? Windows tends to get one-timer BSODs, usually related to update gone wrong. These won't happen twice, as when update is tried again week later, there might already be hotfix or something to prevent issue for reoccurring.

Since it says driver, it literally mean driver issue. I imagine you have these two USB devices on all the time? Were you perhaps updating USB or chipset driver when this happened?
