so my current setup is a

i5 7400

asrock h270m pro4

gtx 1060 6gb

16gb ddr4 2133mhz

600 watt psu

2TB hdd

256GB ssd

and i mainly play games and i play on a 1440p 144hz monitor which obviously this system cant handle 144 frames at 1440p in most games, however in some newer games it also struggles to hit 60fps at 1440p and most of the time both the cpu and gpu are at 100% usage on medium low settings.

im in the uk and have about £400 currently to spend on upgrades but due to the times a lot of things do seem to have a bit of an increased price tag.

I was just wondering if there is anything you think i should get for an upgrade or if there is anything i should maybe wait or save for

thanks

Wait and save. Thats the best thing to do right now. Your pc is fine as is unless you feel like its not enough. Personally for 1080p high, your spec is fine.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

CURRENT PC SPECS

CPU             Ryzen 5 3600 (Formerly Ryzen 3 1200)

GPU             : ASUS RX 580 Dual OC (Formerly ASUS GTX 1060 but it got corroded for some odd reasons)

GPU COOOER      : ID Cooling Frostflow 120 VGA (Stock cooler overheats even when undervolted :()

MOBO            : MSI B350m Bazooka

MEMORY          Team Group Elite TUF DDR4 3600 Mhz CL 16
STORAGE         : Seagate Baracudda 1TB and Kingston SSD
PSU             : Thermaltake Lite power 550W (Gonna change soon as i dont trust this)
CASE            : Rakk Anyag Frost
CPU COOLER      : ID-Cooling SE 207
CASE FANS       : Mix of ID cooling fans, Corsair fans and Rakk Ounos (planned change to ID Cooling)
DISPLAY         : SpectrePro XTNS24 144hz Curved VA panel
MOUSE           : Logitech G603 Lightspeed
KEYBOARD        : Rakk Lam Ang

HEADSET         : Plantronics RIG 500HD

Kingston Hyper X Stinger

and a whole lot of LED everywhere(behind the monitor, behind the desk, behind the shelf of the PC mount and inside the case)

Yeah it is fine for 1080p but the problem is i have a 1440p monitor so 1080p looks garbage on it and so does 720p

Oof. Well its either that or overspend on components right now due to increased prices. But if you think you can hold on for a bit more, wait. Otherwise, a cpu upgrade would be good as many gpu will het bottlenecked by that cpu.

Yeah any recommendations? the furthest upgrade i could do without a motherboard upgrade would be to a 7700k which are ooooooof , over £300 on the used market

A gpu upgrade could probably help you a bit with 1440p gaming. That 1060 is great! but its a bit old. You could either buy a new GPU (Prices are higher than usual), stay with the one you got right now OR go on the used market and look for something there.

ok, used market also has some increased prices, i could just about get a 2070, do you think that would be worth it? i feel like the i5 7400 would be a bottleneck to that though

As a note the other thing i was considering buying wasn't exactly the smartest idea, but i was considering saving up a bit more to get an htc vive or similar vr headset

you'll definitely need to upgrade gpu first for a good experience in vr.
