Hey guys, I know nothing about servers, well other than the parts that are similar to a normal PC, and I have an old chromebook that has a celeron n3060 and hd 400, so I though since I have a new laptop I could convert this into a minecraft server. I have no clue about this, so I thought I would ask how on earth do I do this. Thanks in advance! I hope this is the right place to post this.

Laptop: HP Spectre x360 13t, i7 8565u with 16 gigs, 512 gig  nvme ssd, UHD 620 4k

Other laptop: Acer Chromebook cb3 431 with 4 gigs, celeron n3060 with hd 400 and 16 gigs eMMC soon to be a minecraft server?

You should be able to run linux on it with crouton(look up a guide, its been a while for me), then install java and the minecraft server. Probalby gonna be pretty slow though.

Thanks, I tried to install linux once on it, but it failed, asking me for a password every time I ran the command in the shell. I'll try that again, I'm considering just removing the write protect screw and flashing the BIOS, then booting into linux.

Chromebooks are heavily locked down preventing running traditional desktop programs needing an executable file and I don't think there is any official way to change the OS to a different one (do chromebooks even have a BIOS interface?). A Raspberry Pi would likely be more efficient for 24/7 operation and be easier to your minecraft server running since there is a ton of guides available on it.

I think chromebooks have a BIOS, and I wont do too much with this server, just gonna play with a few friends (1 or 2). I was thinking about doing this just to repurpose this computer, since other than that I will probably never use it again.

they don't have a bios, but they have a firmware. Most all of them allow running a normal linux distro, and then you can run what ever programs you want on there.
