So I have finally decided to get a new system. Last year at this time I got :

  • AMD A4 - 4000
  • 8GB DDR3
  • MSI A55m E33
  • 240GB SSD
  • 750GB HDD
  • 750W LMS data PSU
  • Areocool Areo 500 case

I am planning to reuse the : PSU, Case, SSD and hard rive

Now I am getting :

  • AMD Athlon 3000g
  • A320 motherboard
  • 8GB DDR4

What CPU should I upgrade to next year : Ryzen 1600 or the 3200G

Please tag me @Windows9 so I can see your reply

Can't recommend, if you want to upgrade to a 6 core CPU. You will face power throttling and reduced performance.

Depends on what the used market is all about. The 3200G, however, has a negligible uplift in performance when compared to the multicore potential of the 1600, so when considering what CPU to buy, also weigh what games you play and how they might scale with more cores.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Next year get 4000 series. If you want 1600 then you have to get GPU. Wait for 4000 series, get a better mobo then A320 (B350 at least maybe B450 or B550 when it comes out), and what are you using this rig for? @Windows9 your signature says tag you so I am tagging you

@wall03 Yes, ill probably get Athlon 4000, but I might upgrade slightly before then.

I am going to get 8GB DDR4 for £20 and upgrade to this later :

Buying a second motherboard down the line seems like extra cost that you don't need, and extra labor as well. I do suggest that you save to get a proper motherboard up front, and there are some fairly cheap boards that would deliver the same performance as the tomahawk, if you're not interested in some key feature that the tomahawk might have. If you are able to find a local shop selling a B450M Pro4 from ASRock, or one of the cheaper boards from MSI like the Pro VDH or Gaming Plus, you would be rather set for future upgrades.

Yes. Ryzen's do that. You should be more worried about your mobo not supporting it so please look at product page 4 that

@Fasauceome @wall03 The USB controller on my current motherboard is dead so I cant put a USB in. I can put mouse and keyboard but if I copy large files it crashes. Also my mobo has no USB 3 and the A320 does
