Computer beeping after installing new CPU

So I just bought a new CPU and installed it into my motherboard (changed the thermal paste and whatnot) and when I try to boot my PC it makes a continuous interrupted beeping sound. 

 

After some research I figured that this maybe an issue with the RAM although it is working perfectly after a reinstalled my old CPU. 

 

Old CPU: Intel xeon e3 1220

New CPU: Intel i7 3770 

Motherboard: Fujitsu d2990 a11 GS 5 

RAM: crucial 4gb ddr3 1600

I don't know what kind of pre-built that mobo is from, but if it's a normal consumer unit there's a good chance that the BIOS doesn't support the xeon (that's also a generation older).

  i saw this on the 1st google page selling the motherboard...there's not intel 3xxxs in the list...

The E3 1220 is Sandy Bridge if I'm not mistaken, while the 3770 is Ivy Bridge. Either your board needs a BIOS update to support the 3770, or it just won't work.

ok it's not supported...don't know if there's any bios update available to make it support 3rd gen intel...

I've come to the conclusion that its just not compatible with my motherboard. My initial assumption was that it would've been compatible because it used the same socket and the CPU is compatible with the h61 chipset but I guess my assuptions were wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Time to get a new motherboard.

Yeah, socket isn't the deciding factor on some boards, you have to go by the CPU support list.
