With a 1080p 144hz monitor, what gpu might you recommend to get a solid 100+ fps in things like borderlands 3, Odyssey, and origins? I currently have a GTX 1660 super overclocked from Asus. I'd prefer to keep things below or near 500

I would suggest a 5700xt it is really good for 1080p gaming.

i concur. The 5700xt fulfills the role of 1080p high refresh and 1440 60+ quite well imo, and should power 1080p 60 for quite some time in most new games.

The RTX 2070 Super will be about 500 dollars, and will get at least 100fps 1080p.

Laptop: HP Spectre x360 13t, i7 8565u with 16 gigs, 512 gig  nvme ssd, UHD 620 4k

Other laptop: Acer Chromebook cb3 431 with 4 gigs, celeron n3060 with hd 400 and 16 gigs eMMC soon to be a minecraft server?

Another good contender. Plus comes with NVENC, semi-usable RTRT, and DLSS.

You could throw in another GTX 1660 and run the system in SLI, although it depends on how well games have implemented support for it. I would go with an 8GB AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT:         https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-mech-oc/p/N82E16814137465?Item=N82E16814137465&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFCRANCOM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afcPCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https%3a%2f%2fpcpartpicker.com%2fproduct%2fHWbCmG%2fmsi-radeon-rx-5700xt8gbmechocvideocardrx5700xtmechoc&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFsnyi80SPs7_PEogU7HEG9nQ

I do not believe the 1660 can do SLI. I think it has been dropped on anything below RTX 2080. I wouldn't recommend it anyway, personally.

Is there a significant performance difference between the 2070 and the 2070 super?

I would skip the regular 2070 unless its very inexpensive.

It would be worth getting a 2070 non-super if it was closer in price to a 2060 Super, or rather, around $400. But for $400, the 5700xt is a better buy than the 2070 non-super. IMO.

You will get approximately 10 to 20 percent better performance with the 2070 super (around 10 percent better in intensive games and 20 percent better in lighter games specifically). The Radeon 5700XT is a better option to select than the regular RTX 2070 from a value standpoint.

A 2070 Super would cost $499.99:        https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tTCFf7/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2070-super-8-gb-windforce-oc-3x-video-card-gv-n207swf3oc-8gd

A 5700XT would be a better choice than a RTX 2070 (regular):        https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-mech-oc/p/N82E16814137465?Item=N82E16814137465&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFCRANCOM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afcPCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https%3a%2f%2fpcpartpicker.com%2fproduct%2fHWbCmG%2fmsi-radeon-rx-5700xt8gbmechocvideocardrx5700xtmechoc&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFsnyi80SPs7_PEogU7HEG9nQ
