1060 6gb FTW OC Problems

Jessee
Go to solution Solved by FloRolf,

Just don't use furmark. It's a stupid benchmark and it should just die. Test and OC the card with Heaven and you'll be fine.

So I want to try and get some more power out of my 1060 FTW card. I noticed that on heaven benchmark im able to get 100 core clock and 500 mem clock with no issues. Tried running furmark and still not stability issues but im hitting power limit. Dropped everything to default and im still hitting my power limit. Only in furmark tho. No problem on Heaven. If i could get some insight on whats going on or just some tips that would be awesome

Specs:

AMD Fx-8350 oc to 4.5ghz

HyperX ddr3 16gb

EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 6gb FTW

Furmark traditionally uses all of the available power to the gpu. so if you have the power limit maxed out in overclocking software there's nothing really else to do besides mod the card

Stressing the GPU more then any game would.

Also you can test in the game you prefer (maybe set some settings higher then you would normaly if possible).

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I dont know anything about furmark. Saw it in a youtube video and decided to try it rather than always just using heaven.

Well i just got a 144hz monitor finally lol so I really just wanna get 144fps in most games. I play a lot of cs which ive never had fps issues but in cod and f1 i wanna try and get the most frames possible to make my new investment worth it

One upside i remember from Furmark is, if its stable on there its stable always. (That rule worked 99% of the time. But i am talking couple years back)

Just turn the power to max. Plenty of cards still hit power limit. Nothing you can do about that aside from mod the card.
Doesn’t mean the gpu will take full advantage of the additional power and be able to overclock more.
