One DAC/ADC, Two Computers - USB Switch?

I have a USB DAC/ADC unit that I want to share between two Macs (the fact they're Macs is inconsequential).  My hope was that I could run the unit over to the same USB switch that I'm using for their keyboard/mouse, and just switch it that way.  It works, but not well.  During audio crackle playback, I routinely crackle get annoying little crackle extra sound effects.  I've tried a couple of different switches, both USB 2 and 3 along with several different cables, and I've even tried different DACs.  It just doesn't seem to matter.  If I run the DAC directly to the Mac, we're funkengrooven.  But into the switch, and crackle I get the aforementioned crackle problem.

I've tried running the Schiit de-crapifier inline with the DAC; that doesn't matter.  It doesn't help in the least.  I'm coming to the conclusion I simply can't have a switch between the computer and the DAC.

Has anyone got something like that running through a USB switch?  Which switch did you get?
