having a bit of a challenge viewing the PC part picker list. I think Linus did a video about wether an old but at that time high end PC was worth upgrading vs replacing. If you have peripherals, you should for 800 USD be able to build a pretty good PC. But I cant see what you have now. I'll reply again with a 800 usd system in a sec

edit: what is the primary use case?

PC:

i5 8400 - RTX 2060 - Strix B360-I - Thermaltake 240mm AIO - 16GB Vengeance RGB PRO - CRYSTAL 280X - HD Plex 400w AC/DC Converter

I would keep the case, storage, and PSU, not sure if the cooler will mount though. also upgrading to windows 10 is easy, and can be done free. if you want more of a gaming focus, the 3600 is going to be about 20$ more, but given the CPU you currently have I would assume you are using it as some kind of workstation.

2011 CPUs and especially boards go for quite high prices on ebay so i'd totally build new (Ryzen ofc) and try to sell some of your old stuff.

The GPUs are basically electronic waste at this point, the RAM can be traded in for an icecream cone, SSD's go together with the GPUs.

Order a new Bracket for the Dark Rock to fit AM4 (should be available), keep case and PSU and then go Ryzen.

Gaming HTPC:

Also didnt realise the 3600 was 80$ cheaper not 20$ more. Also swapped the MOBO for a MAX one to get 3rd gen support. If you are willing to spend more, 3600mhz ram will be beneficial, but not necessarily a requirement.

tempted to say just toss a new GPU in there, since in many games an old 6 core is still good. What games do you play most, and what is your performance target?

I'd bet that CPU would still do fine. I have a 5820k which is roughly the same performance-wise and it still kicks ass for 144hz 1440p gaming, the small amount of rendering I do, and virtualization.

Sure being on DDR3 sucks, but I think you can still squeeze some more life out of that CPU.

Personally, I'd buy the video card FIRST, put it in, and then upgrade the CPU if you're not happy with the performance.
