Why does the iPhone 11 pro have better battery life than the standard 11? Looking at the specs it has the same a13 bionic and the same 4GB of RAM.  The regular 11 even has a slightly larger battery with a lower resolution display. The only thing that the iPhone 11 pro has going for it is the slightly smaller size. The battery difference is about 4 hours between the two with a smaller battery and a higher resolution OLED display. Something here does not make sense.

Might be due to the screen. Unlike LCDs, OLED panels don't have the same size/power backlight for differing resolutions. Each pixel consumes power, so more pixels = more power consumption.

OLEDs have the advantage that pixels that are turned off (black) don't consume power. For a regular LCD the backlight is turned on for the whole screen all the time (or sections of the screen, if using local dimming). On top of that, higher resolutions typically require a brighter backlight to produce the same brightness because the pixels are smaller, which lets less light through. So on average an OLED should consume less power (unless all pixels are at max brightness all the time)

Are you sure you’re not comparing the Pro Max? The Pro Max has a much larger battery. The 11 actually edges out the 11 Pro in the article below.

I was looking at more real-world tests on YouTube comparing the battery life. These are just two examples, but it must be the LCD VS OLED to get that extra battery life.

Definitely not the display.

In the second video, the guy pointed out how abnormally hot the 11 got. Excess heat means the SoC is drawing a lot of power. Sounds like a software issue and is pretty decidedly not the norm, though on certain sites running certain ads, I experience the same issue myself where the phone will get quite toasty and battery drains rapidly until I leave the webpage.

Most probably, given the issue only occurs on specific websites at random points, some ads are likely doing some shenanigans in the background. Ads that perform crypromining do exist. The user generally doesn’t have much say in what ads are loaded and what they can do.

The 11 Pro Max also ended up doing quite a lot worse in the video than expected, so perhaps it came across something similar early on.

With the A13 chip in particular, though remarkably efficient for the performance it provides, will guzzle up the battery in a hurry when held to full load.
