First build in a decade.  I've done weeks of research and just want to get some opinions on any clashing components before i pull the final trigger:

CPU: Ryzen 3900x (plan to use stock cooler)

Motherboard: x570 Aorus Master

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB DDR4-3600

Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB NVME

Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 8TB 5400 RPM HDD (solely for long term multimedia storage)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB

Case: Cooler Master MasterCase H500M Mid

Power: Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold

I'm mainly going for airflow and performance over RGB and aesthetic.  If it runs too loud, I may look into adding an AIO water cooler at some point in the future.

Is that H500M the mesh one? The original one had horrible airflow if I recall correctly.

It has a mesh front and also a glass front.  Gamers Nexus gave it pretty good reviews, as long as you use the mesh front.

Grab a Dark Rock Slim for the CPU and you're good. Personally I'd get a WD Red over the crappy Barracuda but I'd you insist on the cheaper consumer model, that's your choice

I considered that, but I wanted to cut back costs steeply somewhere where it doesn't matter, and this seemed like the obvious choice.

I know the Dark Rock would be massively quieter, but is it better performance wise too? Or would i just be paying for silence?

You should be good with the mesh one.

Yeah I think the H500 is actually better than the M it does have RGB on the huge fans, but well there you go you always turn it off?

I would have got the H500 but you can't even buy it in the UK at the moment at a reasonable price.

Also you could grab the Ironwolf 8tb for £30 more (in the UK) and it is 7200rpm.

You could also get the G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB which is same speed and CAS Latency, but no RGB and £30 cheaper which you could switch to the 8tb drive.

It's much better in every regard.

As for coats, at least move up to a WD Blue. As far as I recall, our larger Barracuda drivers tend to fail a lot more frequently than Was and Toshiba models

I think the latter from this thread if you use the Slim.
