Want to build for about 600 usd

I want to rebuild my current system which is ancient at this point. It's an amd fx4300 with 8gb of ram and a Nvidia 610. I want to reuse my corsair c600m and my 1tb mechanical drive. I'd like to upgrade the storage to a nvme ssd or a sata ssd later but to get started I want to reuse the drive. I currently game on my laptop but I'm severely limited in that capacity. I will use the new machine for mapping software that responds well to more cores and threads but also needs a decent gpu for the graphical rendering. I don't need the program to run to the max, at school I run it on a dual 32 core xenon system with a quadro but I'm not. Allowed to remote into it and use it outside of campus. I want to be able to play my games on the desktop. Nothing crazy just some ksp, civ, and some random indie games. I have dual monitors that run hdmi at this point but would like to upgrade later on.

I'm trying to stay around 600 usd and use a ryzen 5 and a bf450 board but I get lost on finding ram and a decent gpu. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t use a hard drive as a boot drive, get an ssd and transfer the os. It’s a night and day difference.
