Plex Hardware Encoding

Hey everyone!

I am going to be upgrading my plex server from a 3770k to a 5960x. We (my parents and I) are going to be doing 2-3 4k streams in the future. Will this handle it? Or should we possibly consider getting a GPU for hardware encoding? What are your thoughts? I know the 5960x is a beast of a chip and should handle it. 

Your input and guidance on this is greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions and I will gladly answer or provide more details.

3770k not cutting it?

 

but 5960x is not a beast today by any means, it barely managed to beat the 2700X and is no match to the 3700x

Still faster than 3770k. We have been getting some occasional issues with encoding ATM even with the 3770k.

Tho seems like a single GPU should do the trick, like a 1650S. The 5960X must use a graphics card anyway so might as well try hardware encoding with 1650S on the 3770k first

Both 1050 and 1650 would be fine, though 1650 Super has the newer Turing-based NVENC. (1650 non-super has the same one as 1050)
