Component on a 50" ... eww eww eww eww.

I was thinking the same thing, like watching the old 480i tv shows on a 1080p screen. However, upscalers have come along way in last few years.  (maybe not long enough, but certainly a long way.

Well, you can use a component to d-sub cable if you find a tv with the pc connector, that would free up one component for use with a suitable composite converter, as for the two composite in's you may need to use an external avr switch.

You are both thinking of "Composite" cables (The Red, Yellow, White, or "RCA" cables). Component cables are the Y + Pb + Pr (Red, blue, green). Component cables have enough bandwidth to output HD (1080i on most TV's). It is technically capable of outputting 1080p and beyond, but it lacks HDCP so you can't use them to playback things like Blu-Rays without some sort of HDCP stripper device.

Either way, I'm not sure what kind of TV you're looking at, but every HDTV I've had (Including a 2013 LG Plasma tv) has had multiple Composite (usually x2) and at least a single Component input. Maybe your particular market is different though?

no, the OP asked for device that takes both, And with regard to upscaling I was talking specifically composite, e.g my reference to 480i.

It's not that hard to find a 50" TV with composite and component - just do a bit more searching, I came up with this within 30 seconds: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/philips-50-34-class--49-5-8-34-diag--lcd-1080p-60hz-hdtv/5315464.p;jsessionid=3A706671EC0893DED23FC94485E1A45A.bbolsp-app03-174?id=1218635270968&skuId=5315464#tab=specifications

Just don't try to get a real thin one - those are less likely to have one as they're more about size than compatibility.

Gibbsy's in Australia, you'd be surprised how hard some of the simplest stuff is down here.    It's like because were at the bottom of the world people must go out of their way to make life harder for us.

I noticed he was in Australia when I first looked it up but didn't think it would be that more difficult.

Sometimes it isn't, but murphy's Law.

That one looks alright but only has one component in which means he may have to use a component AV switch.

I missed the point where he specified the composite count - that's actually going to be real hard to find a 50" TV with two composite inputs. I'll do some more looking later (or at least for an alternative solution like a AV switch)
