How do I change my MAC address on the FRITZ!Box router? The reason why I want to do this because I want to change my public IP. As far as I know the only way to do this is to change the MAC address (or buy a new router, but I'm not gonna spend money if not necessary). The problem is that I don't know where the option is on the FRITZ!Box 5490.

I am not sure why you need to do this, what does changing your public IP have to do with your MAC? Also, how/why did you change it?

What is the reasoning for this?

Unless you have a business account you probably don't have a static IP from your ISP anyway. In any case, changing your MAC address isn't going to do anything either, and you can't "change" your MAC address on anything, as it's a unique identifier for that specific network device. Some devices (probably not your modem) can spoof the MAC address that it reports. But that wouldn't do anything anyway and even if you could, it would probably break your internet connection completely.

A new MAC will give you a new DHCP lease from the ISP, thus a new public IP address.

Right, or you can just leave it unplugged for a while, and it may jump to a new one as we all have dynamic IP's unless you have a business account.

But, why does the OP WANT a new public IP..?

The reason why is because oculus wasn't letting me login to the account on my own ip, so I figured the account was ip banned, but I really didn't know why, so I tried it on a VPN to log in and sure enough I got into my account again. Only problem is that I have to use a VPN to be able to use the app, so I thought maybe changing my public IP address manually would resolve the issue. I've also tried to contact oculus but they're only able to get back to me in two business days.

Most ISPs have their lease times set to days or weeks. Spectrum for example has a 7 day lease time while AT&T is a couple days.
