This is my current set up - AMD Ryzen 7 2700x - ROG STRIX B350-F Gaming - 4x8GB 288-Pin DDR4 3000 G.Skill Ripjaws V Series - ThermalTake Toughpower 850W - Geforce GTX 1080 8G.

I bought my 1080 when it was released years ago and am finally looking to make an upgrade. I did some testing with some of the lovely people here on the forums and was testing my current GPU and it was coming up below other 1080's. I am currently looking at a 2070 super and wanted other peoples thoughts on it!

If you have the money, buy a card now. I can't stand all the wait for this and wait for that crap. Best case scenario you save some money on the rtx 2000 series when the 3000 series comes out. Worst case scenario covid 19 delays the 3000 series til quarter 4 or possibly 2021 and or they drop the 3080ti first for $1300

I dont know how much you want to spend on a card but I personally wouldn't wait. I had people tell me to wait when I got my 5700xt. Looking at just call of duty and pub g I have logged over 300 hours of playtime with the new card within 45 days of having it. I would of been miserable waiting for that long.

If your current card works and your not happy with the performance then buy a new card and sell your current one to recoup some of the cost. There is always someone out there willing to buy a used video card if you don't price it thru the roof

Ok then going through the 2000 series, which would be my best bang for my buck upgrade from my stock 1080?

I want to get opinions on which one to get so I don't have any regrets later on.

None of them...the 2070 super ain't even that much faster than 1080...the only upgrade that would be a noticeable improvement in terms of performance would be 2080ti and price makes it stupid...and it's an old card at this point.

Save your money and enjoy your games with your current hardware...you have a good gpu, tune your settings a bit.

I've pretty much upgraded everything around my GPU and my computer still lacks in performance sometimes. I don't care about graphics, I only care about getting the most FPS I can. At least above 60, and sometimes that's not even possible.

You play at 4k? Cause I use to have a 1080 windforce and I was playing games at 1440p with 80 to 100fps all the time with very minimal settings reduction..

Nope. I have two 1920x1080 monitors and a shitty TV for my third when watching shows. Obviously I don't play games on the TV, only my main monitor.

This whole time that I have been using this PC, I feel like i've been doing something wrong or something is just off. Because everyone tells me with this setup that I should be doing just fine, but I am not getting the results that the people around me said I should be getting.

GTX 1080...even a slightly underperforming stock version of the card should handle all games at 1080p high settings with 60fps easily and in fact in most games should produce a lot more than that...1080p is an easy resolution to drive for this card.

Which is where my confusion begins. Because at times i'm getting a steady 60 fps, and at times i'm dipping below 40-50 constantly.

Have you tried disconnecting your other monitors and have only your main monitor enabled while gaming?

You are rendering at 1080p resolution? No supersampling or anything? Default settings in the Nvidia control panel? Uninstall GeForce experience if it's installed...install new version of graphics drivers....

What game(s) are you struggling with?

if your 1080 is performing worse than other people's 1080s, is it really the GPU, or other factors?

I haven't tried disconnecting my monitors but will do that when I notice i'm getting frame drops. With GeForce Experience are you saying to leave it uninstalled?

And my games are kind of everywhere at the moment. Path of Exile, Call of Duty Warzone, Rainbow 6 Siege, Tekken 7. League of Legends.

Yeah for some reason I get slightly lower performance whenever Nvidia GeForce experience is installed, so I recommend not installing it unless you need it for recording...and even then, when I do need to use it I install it and remove it after I'm done.

I've always used it for just clipping funny moments I have with my friends. But I guess I can go without it for a while, to test if that helps at all.

Just to check off the easy issues... What temps are you seeing while gaming? I agree with other that something is off since my 1080 will average 100+ FPS running 3440x1440 on most games.

Yes...I assume you have the latest drivers for nstalled?

Try disabling the monitors and see if that fix your issue.
