Hi. I have a GPU with a malfunctioning fan, and I'm almost certain it is the reason why my card is failing.

(More context here:)

However, when I opened it up I found that the Fan could not be directly unplugged

Some have suggested that I cut the fan's cables and isolate them. Should I do this? Or is there some other course of action I can try?

If the fan is soldered to the PCB, I would not recommend cutting them, because if you cut it too short, you will have to do surgery on the pcb.

Replacing it would be an issue however.

Just cut the wire and put a piece of tape over the end so they don't touch anything.

It's not soldered, look at the images.

I did, the fan end would be soldered in most cases. I'm suggesting NOT cutting cable at the end closest to the connector, because if you want to replace the fan, you'll have nothing to reach it with.

Might I suggest going with an aftermarket cooler instead (like the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III). Your card is probably out of warranty and messing with those cables on the pcb is dangerous. You could just get a 4 pin molex connector and a crimp tool and then connect those fans directly to your psu. However running at full speed those fans are pretty loud.

"If the fan is soldered to the PCB" is what you said.

It is not, there is a connector that plugs into the PCB.

Obviously he would not cut the fan wire at the connector if he ever wanted to strip the wires and reattach a new fan.
