So I want to purchase an SSD and I was just wondering if it's recommended to format my current HDD, which has Windows on it, or is it possible to just delete Windows from it when I get Windows installed on the SSD?

Also, my motherboard does only have SATA 2.0, how is that gonna differ from 3.0 when running Windows and various games?

Don't buy an SSD unless you are upgrading to SATA 3.

I disagree, I'm running my SSD on sata 2 and it's a hell of a lot faster than HDD.

@op When i upgraded I installed Win8 on my SSD then formatted my old HDD

This is terrible advice. Depending on which SSD, the OP may not even max out his SATA II connection.

Even if you're stuck with SATA II, an SSD will be a huge improvement!

Ok, then do you have any advice on specific ones? Heard Samsung and Corsair are good, looking for a 120GB

I'm sure with today's line-up of SSD's, you would see a slight bottleneck on SATA II, but it would still be a huge improvement over a mechanical drive. I haven't really kept up on current SSD's, as I am still rockin a previous generation Samsung 830 Series, but I see everyone talking about Samsung's 840 Series SSD's.

Depends on pricing. The good ones are all pretty similar. Where are you shopping/located?
