This is honestly why I've given up on Steam in Linux, its just such a hassle keeping the drivers working.

But for any chance of help from the people who haven't lost faith, you're going to need to explain what distro you are on, how you installed the drivers, etc.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

ubuntu 16.04

p106 gpu on prime with coffee lake. nvidia drivers installed via ppa.

430 is newest version in the ppa. 384-418 and versions between can launch steam no issue. only 430 gives me the issue.

and its not bad only that one driver version. swapping with additional drivers is a life saver. i need diffrent drivers for drffrent proton games.

is that enough system info?

If the new driver was built around Ubuntu 19.10+ and backported, it may not ship 32 bit libraries on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is dropping future 32bit support and freezing old libraries, you can continue to use them until they eventually break.

If NVIDIA follows Ubuntu in this, it could become a widespread issue for NVIDIA users.

If NVIDIA hasn't dropped 32bit, then its up to your package maintainer to fix it. Otherwise you can try NVIDIA's painful installer https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

This is one of the reasons I recommend AMD Cards and rolling distros.

Try to install the 32 bit drivers

sudo apt install libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386

and if you got the 430 nvidia drivers

libnvidia-gl-430:i386

Also try to reinstall the drivers from the driver manager if the issue still persist

Also I recommend using the ppa:graphics-drivers repo

As I'm fine with gaming Windows its kinda a none issue, but its useful to be able to at lead have Steam running to redeem codes, etc.

What's frustrating is I have to keep the card working on Linux because for some reason using the Intel iGPU the picture is MUCH softer, text looks blurry in comparison.  I'm guessing its something to do with the compositing on Intel using worse scaling for some reason, although why that would impact static text at native monitor resolution I have no idea.

Surely its about time they wrote a 64bit Steam client?  Even if it was unable to launch 32bit games, it would at least be an option for other things you might use Steam for.

is there a way to copy the librearies from the 418 drivers if the command fails? also dxvk games work so i think vulkan itself should be fine, unless its a part of steam's gl libreary and is making it not launch.

also i heard that too, but they were only concidering dropping 32 bit libs, but they didnt.

@Chunchunmaru_ the opengl 32 bit libs are missing the second command is what i need. even virtual box complains when nvidia driver is set, but not when igpu is. your second command didnt do anything how do i make it work?
