So I had a Synology DS 418+ that had a motherboard failure.  I contacted synology and they said that they have no facility in the USA that can fix it.  They were not entirely clear on whether buying a newer model would allow for a seemless transition meaning I could just plug in the 4 old hard drives and get going.  Bottom line is that I don't think I want a black box NAS anymore from a company that can't help me when i need them and I would rather take my chances with a plain ole server that I can troubleshoot on my own.  Suggestions on the least painful way to migrate?

Buy another one, pull all the data off it, to something else, sell NAS after you are done with it.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.
