Hi,

Recently, I've purchased a laptop for use while at school/work. The laptop works great however I have run into a problem. Despite the laptop having better specs than my desktop, it still manages to perform worse in numerous games I've tested. I've tested titles such as Far Cry 5, Far Cry 4, CSGO, ETS 2, Minecraft, and in all titles, my desktop performs better when it really shouldn't.

I have now also completed a 3DMARK Time Spy benchmark on both systems and to my surprise, the laptop performed significantly better with a score of 4897 vs 3731 on my desktop. However, the laptop still continues to perform worse in games which I can't understand as it scored considerably higher than the desktop in the benchmark.

I've found the desktop to perform on average 15% to 25% better across all titles.

Any help in addressing the issue is appreciated.

Specifications of both systems as follows;

Laptop;

-Ryzen 7 3750H

-GTX 1660 TI 6GB (no overclocks)

-16GB DDR4 2400MHz

-500GB NVME SSD

Desktop;

-Core i3 7100

-ASUS GTX 1060 3GB (+100 core, +300 memory)

-16GB DDR4 2400MHz

-240GB Sata SSD

-2x1TB 7200RPM HDD

-Asus B250M Pro4

-Corsair VS450

Note;

-Both systems completed all benchmarks/games with the same programs running in the background (Discord, steam)

-Both systems are in colder than average rooms with room for airflow.

-I've ensured that both systems have the most recent drivers/updates.

This is just a theory, and even if it is correct I don't know how to help you as I each laptop is different. What is likely your issue is that your display is probably connected to your GPU through the Vega 11 graphics and not directly to your 1660 ti, on a lot of laptops this can be changed although they often require a restart to implement.

P.S. your laptop actually has about equivalent specs to your desktop, although your laptop version of the 1660 ti is a bit faster than your desktop.
