Hi everyone,

My PC specs are:

Ryzen 5 1600x

Patriot Viper 4 Series DDR4 8GB (2 x 4GB) 3200MHz (PC4-25600) Dual Module Kit x2 so would be 16gb

MSI B350 PC Mate

1TB HDD

INNO 3D GTX 1080

500w PSU Corsair.

So i have had this machine for a year or two and i have had no issues with the ram slots 2 and 4 but all of a sudden when i booted up the computer it will not boot. I have taken out the ram and replaced them in the same slots and swappped the ram around and the same issue is happening i have reinstalled windows and no luck.

Could you guys please help me with this? Thank you so much to everyone that replies :)

@Astralise123 How did you determine it was the RAM's fault?

Or did you just decide to stab at the dark, and think it's the RAM?

The computer won't BOOT, but will it POST?

E.g. do you see the MSi BIOS splash screen, or are you able to make it into the UEFI BIOS?

Have you tried putting the RAM into slots 1 and 3??

Are you able to check to see if the problem is with the HDD or GTX 1080?

figured out it was a ram issue due to the sound the was emmiting from the motherbard after taking our ram slots 2 and 4 worked with no problem. when i put the ram in 1 and 3 it didnt work but i highly suspect the ram just died as it was working with no issues and the machine is kept well and not misused

It could be a motherboard or CPU problem as well.

Odd that slots 1 and 3 don't work, but 2 and 4 does...?

One reason why I am suspecting it CAN be CPU or motherboard problem...

Motherboard because it sounds like slots 1 and/or 3 is faulty, and could be getting worse, and now affecting slots 2 and 4.

CPU because the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) is WITHIN the CPU itself; CPU could be faulty, or starting to act up.

Are you able to have the RAM tested in another computer that supports DDR4 RAM?

Did you try just using ONE stick of RAM (e.g. if 1 of 2 stick is bad, while the other is still okay) ?

Thanks for the reply :) I do not have another machine that i could test it with and after using 1 stick of Ram it still would not boot (this was in ram slot 1)

Did you get a chance to try the single stick in any of the other slots?

You also need to try the other RAM stick too...the 1st stick you tried could be the bad one, and the other one you left out could be the good stick.
