Does using laptop while charging affect battery longevity?

Go to solution Solved by NDBroughton,

The short answer: No, using a laptop while charging it does not affect the lifespan or performance of the battery, depending somewhat on how you use it.

The long answer:  There are too many variables involved to give you a definitive answer. If you are playing action intensive games all day long while your laptop is plugged in you will be generating a lot of heat. Heat is the enemy of electronic components in general, and will decrease the battery’s lifespan, although not necessarily its performance. If your laptop gets pretty hot when you use it while he battery is charging, and IF you intend on keeping your laptop more than 5 years, then you could be impacting the lifespan of the battery, but probably not the performance.

a battery will be affected but its not because you are using it while charging. Its mostly because it stays at 100%. battery longevity reduces when its at the ends (near 100% or near 0%). So, as a good rule of thumb, for the best longevity of any battery (phone, laptop, car etc) keep between 20 and 80%
