Laptop wont use gpu(SOLVED)

Go to solution Solved by KaizerFurian,

In case anyone stumbles upon this post in the future, there is no work around via PC/Laptop settings. It has to do with an Nvidia program that runs everythign through integrated graphics. The short story is, DX8 isn't recognized by Nvidia's gpu smart switch so it will only run through your cpu graphics.

THAT BEING SAID, there is a work around specially for FFXI via windower and DGVOODOO. Even more specifically, DGVOODOO. Basically it runs DX8 through dgvoodoo and turns it into a DX that Nvidias smart switch recongizes and it will then run on the GPU not the CPU.

So this is my laptop
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834235081?Item=N82E16834235081

It wont use my gpu. I have been playing FFXI. running at 20 fps but 0% usage on task manager.
Drivers are up to date.
Manage 3D Settings set to H.P. Nvidia processor.

Is there a way to have my laptop just run solely on my dedicated gpu?

First of all - update the video drivers with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). Secondly, update all drivers and firmware. Then, track thermals and usage with GPU-Z. Also, make sure you launch the game with the 1060 - right click and select run with high performance nvidia processor

What your laptop should do is automatically decide "ah this thing can use the GPU, let's put it on there!". Turning off the iGPU will cause a (supposedly) unneccesary high power draw at no extra benefit.

It's weird it doesn't work though. Are you plugged in to the wall (ensures proper power)? Perhaps it's something in the HP settings that's preventing it from doing it. Or indeed somehow improper drivers.

I also have a laptop with an Nvidia GPU but that option is not available for me... :P

@ 5X5, done, and per GPUZ its at 0% load.

@Tomvan idk if there was some confusing I dont have an HP, in my OP H.P. meant High Performace.

Whoops I'm not properly awake yet clearly. :D Yes I visited your link before posting, but I still managed to do this. :D (I have a HP myself, that's why probably :P) So, either way, is there perhaps something in the ASUS settings that is messing with this? :)

I'm also owning an Laptop with iGPU and Nvidia Graphics. Goto Nvidia Control Panel and (sry my settings are in German) under 3D-settings Nvidia High Performance Processor. If you want just youre game to use the dedicated GPU, the go to Program preferences, select youre game and set it to use the Nvidia High Performance Processor.Unbenannt.thumb.PNG.f591d11228e374342020dbd09e46c9ec.PNG
