an i5 paired with a 780 is absolutely no disrespectful. I wouldn't get the 4770k and I'd get the 4670k. Save some money, get the same performance. Unless you are video editing/rendering or using any multi threaded applications.

Worth is an absolutely relative term. If you're tight on cash and other upgrades would make a better performance choice, then no it's not worth it.

If you're redoing your system and don't have a budget then sure, why not.

Do you have an SSD?
Why do you have 16GB of RAM? Do you edit?

Etc, etc. We need a more thought out post to properly help you.

@achillesviper Well, I don't really see any reason why you shouldn't get a 4770k. You sound like you want it to a certain extent, and since you have the money it might not be a bad option for you. Games, as they update more and more, are finally catching up to the Hyper-threading abilities of high end CPU's. If you don't want to have to upgrade your CPU for a while then you are more than OK with a 4770k. Most people today get similar performance to it with their 2600k's, and the same will happen whenever the 6770k (or whatever the hell intel comes with at that point) releases.

I'd say go for it.

If you can find one on Craigslist or something for $200, then sure go for it.

Otherwise you'd be better off saving the money and either putting it towards a better graphics card, or just saving the money for future upgrades/something else. 4670k would be more than enough.

You could even skip upgrading the CPU all together and save up for Broadwell.
