DIY Smartphone?

So I've been looking into building my own smartphone as a fun little DIY Project. I'm willing to learn everything necessary to build it. I was wondering where the best place to find parts and  how to build one. I understand Some might say this is a dumb idea, but I'm willing to do it.

There are 2 ways to make your own smartphone:

- Take all the parts for an existing smartphone and assemble them yourself (i.e. video above)

- Make yourself a basic thing like this: https://www.circuitmess.com/ringo/ , or ake a raspberry pi, a touchscreen and a 4G module and figure out some power supply, and spend a few months coding some apps that make sense

 

The latter will result in an impractically unwieldy beast of a thing, but can work and give you the satisfaction of having done it...

It....doesn't really work that way. I mean, you could, but you'd still basically have parts of other phones; it wouldn't really be your own.

The way they're designed doesn't really make DIY that possible.
