My PC had a virus and now ms office cannot open downloaded files

@SpecsTacularWell the first point of call i would suggest before downloading and opening any files is to cleanup the infection and make sure any damage is repaired.

@jimkirk363 of course i did use bitdefender to disinfect my pc

yup

the issue is when i download from the internet for documents, my office cannot open them. i already reinstall my office (uninstall and installed updated) and still no fix on my issue. i tried to upload those downloaded files into my one drive to open them using Online office and seems to open them without a problem.

@SpecsTacularseems to be a corruption there somewhere along the line.

 

To be honest with u i have been in IT 20 years and if i get a Virus i tend to always end up reformatting and reinstalling the computer because u can never be 100% sure the infection has gone and/or fix any or all of the problems that come along with an infection like this one.

well reformatting is always the best way but the most hassle. well if there is no fix by saturday, i will end up reformatting it

Wouldn't a image from Backup and Restore (Windows 7) be easier?

@wONKEyeYEs Not really as most viruses tend to infect the restore points on windows so that wouldn't be a good thing to do.

Most people don't bother doing them and just reinstall freshly.

I would do a clean install, install everything back on the computer, and then do a system image backup before going any further.
