Get the current gen I5 with appropriate motherboard.

Are you sure you need the DVD drive?

If you live in the US you can get the 780 for another $70. If you don't need the performance you can get a cheaper 770 from EVGA B Stock.

I'd drop the caviar black and get a Seagate Barracuda or a Caviar Blue. You will not need to buy another case fan.

For about the same price as what you have, you get the latest i5 as well as a GTX 780. Seagate Barracuda 2TB drive saves you enough for a SSD for faster boot and loading. I went with an mATX board to offset the newer i5. The only thing I changed was going with a blu-ray in place of the DVD drive. With a hard drive that size, I'm guessing you were going to be ripping movies to your computer. You can do that and rip blu-rays now too.

All this for about the price you started with. Good luck

A few mostly small changes. Move to Haswell because it is more powerful and newer. This of course meant a new motherboard. I also changed the memory to better fit the color scheme and because it will fit under the cpu cooler fan. Added an ssd which is really important for a snappy and responsive system. Also changed the hdd to one that is reliable and less expensive. Included a larger psu. Changed the monitor to an IPS panel for better color reproduction and wider viewing angles.
