I have an 8700K OC'd to 4.8 on all cores cooled by a Noctua NH-D15 (LTT edition). I recently started folding and I was curious if temperature spikes over 80C are safe in the long term. I know you generally want to stay below this threshold if possible and while running HW64 my CPU is averaging below 70C on all cores. So I guess my question is this. If I'm averaging far below am I safe and can just ignore the spikes?

If you're running F@H, I'd consider removing the overclock, particularly because it will utilize AVX, which is why it's getting so hot.

That is what I'm using, but again I'm only seeing an average temp of just over 60C. Do you still recommend I remove the overclock or do you think that I am safe because of the average and can ignore the occasional spikes?

This is after running F@H for about 2 hours

What exactly is causing the spikes like that? Is it actually folding when you are in the 30's? High 80's is something to be concerned about if you're running higher than normal voltages.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

The screenshot kind of cuts it off but the order those numbers appear in is current, minimum, maximum, and average. And yes that screenshot is from the PC doing nothing but actively folding.
