Hi all!

I have been thinking about building a new pc looking at the current discounts on the 3900x.

I was wondering if you guys would suggest to wait for the new releases in October or if it would be hard to beat this price.

My pc can currently run my games I want to play, the current benefit would be that it would be able to play them better and that I'd be able to get a VR headset a few months earlier.

Im still going to upgrade sometime, because the cpu is very old (i7 2600) and everything except for the psu and gpu is over 8 years old (I often plan my build so that they will last).

What do you think I should do?

if you're gaming only, no need for a 3900x

Yeah its not just gaming, I do a lot of photoshop, after effects and cinema4d, but those are currently on a low burner so that's why I wouldnt need the juice now and can afford to wait

it's up to you and when you need a new pc. there will always be new releases around the corner, new price cuts around the corner etc. unless there is something coming around next month (and there is not), usually it's not worth waiting. if you need a new pc, get one. if you don't, don't

Since the 3900x is on a good discount anyways and if you can afford a new computer you might as well. As said by boggy there will always be a better thing later but the 3900 is a really good cpu now. When you pick up cinema4d and after effects more you'll see a massive improvement and gaming on the 3900 is great as it's amongst the top gaming cpu's out there at stock. Sure an oc'd 3600 that runs at the same frequency as the 3900 will perform mostly the same in a lot of games but since you do those other tasks too I'd advice you to get an 8 core ryzen at least.

You can always upgrade later as eventually the 3900 and 3950 will become older and cheaper on the used market.

Thanks man! I think looking at what you guys are saying, I will just build now. I might pick it up again soon, and the performance boost is so big. Especially at this price its hard to beat I guess. Adding to that 8gb of ram is gonna be too little any day now, and my current motherboard can't handle more (yeah its that old :p). Thanks for your answers!
