Well, I bought an external microphone for my PC but the mic doesn't record any sound

It appears listed in the control panel, however when I make a voicecall on any service (I tried on Facebook messenger and whatsapp web) the other person can't  hear my voice, so the mic is recognized otherwise I wouldn't even be able to start a voicecall

I tried updating the drivers to the latest version and also double-checked that is pluged in the correct port

I think it must be a software problem becasue the mic works perfectly on my other devices

Any ideas what could I try?

Have you tried setting the microphone to be your default input device in your audio settings?
Have you tried going into the settings on the specific app to tell it to listen to that microphone?

If you had a mic before, and that was set to default, your pc might be confused. Just a couple of quick problems I've ran into.

You should be able to go into the sound menu like I have pulled up in the pictures and go to recording. I don't have a mic plugged in currently, so I had to get a picture of the speakers to show the icon for default devices. If your mic isn't set as default currently, right click on it in the little menu and select "Set as Default Device" and you'll get the green check mark.
