I made a critical mistake of changing permissions on my (C:) drive in order to delete some unwanted items. It seems as though I made a big mistake because I cannot view my (C:) drive files or folders. I am very inexperienced in this and I just want my permissions back to their system defaults.

From what I’ve read, it seems I may need to do a system reset to get it back to the default, but that would be such a pain because I would have to download all my games again. Please, please provide some insight as to what I can do to fix this. (Please dumb down the solution as much as possible if you would be so kind)

What exactly did you do to change permissions on the drive? And can you not see the files on the drive, or you can't see the drive at all?

I can’t see the files. I can see the drive. I don’t have permission to access the drive though.

I'm not seeing a picture so I'm not sure what error you are getting. If you able to, right click the drive, click Properties, then click Security tab on the top. Then click on Administrators (Computer_name\Administrators) were Computer_name is the name of your computer. There should be a section towards the bottom that shows permissions, make sure Full control has a check mark next to it. If it doesn't, click edit, then select Administrators (Computer_name\Administrators) again, then check the box next to Full control, then click OK.

When I click security tab at the top, it immediately says "You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object."

I'm sorry, but what path would I use if I just wanted to reset the C drive. Like I said, I'm really new to this....For example, if I wanted the full path to the C drive, do i just type "icacls C drive /reset"?

You know, after I spend 30 seconds on Google (www.google.com) I found this: https://www.tweaking.com/ (Windows Repair)

It should fix your problems and no knowledge is required. Try it.

I stumbled across that yesterday, but i didn't see the free option only the pro version. I'll give the free version a try.
