I need PSU Advice..

Go to solution Solved by tatsukage13,

This is the power supply I bought recently, if my hw monitor is to be believed my cpu pulls 110 watts and gpu about 150 under full load and its the quietest thing in my system.

Hey, im in desperate need of help.

I’m needing to get a new PSU cause my Masterwatt 750w started making a scary sound when playing a heavy game, I linked the sound(had to do through drive cause it was above 20mb) If you know anything about that I’d love to know more too.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Fvtaq_-A2VwfxTBe0_txGxncuyS9SbYg

im looking for a very reliable and safe power supply to avoid anything like this or faults. I can’t find any ones without a lot of issues in the reviews(customer).
My system has a Ryzen 7 2700, RX 580 8gb, 32gb with 2 2tb hardrives(ones a sshd) and I don’t have many warranties on these parts, I’m scare to get a psu and lose all my money spent and my workstation. I’ve looked into the EVGA BQ’s and Corsair TXm linups but is there any safer with similar pricing?

Well done telling him to get something that's a massive downgrade from what he has...

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Could you be a little more specific? Which one are you talking about?

Just ran across this.  I’m surprised no one has pointed you at the tier list yet.

There are people here who know a LOT about power supplies and they actually test them and take them apart and stuff.

they made a list by internal quality.  Possibly exactly what you are looking for.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

going by his post I only saw it was a 750 watt power supply, not anything else about it, and the one I recommended was just that.  Thanks for correcting me.  Next time help the O.P. too though

You're really not one to talk, considering you almost got OP to switch from just a whiny PSU to a legitimate firecracker.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

This guy really isn’t, offered me a cheap option and didn’t notice I added Masterwatt(I should’ve specified but still)

Thank you HM though for reassuring me it’s that, I wasn’t sure if it was whiny or legitimately will blow up..

this is the first time I posted on a forum n it hasn’t been great, moderator has been annoying and I haven’t gotten a lot of advice I could go with but you seem to know your shit, thank you man. I really appreciate it.

I looked at the list and I’m looking into Seasonic Focus 650w.

make sure it's the newer GX units, the older ones had quite a few issues.

Would you perhaps know any Canadian sites where I could actually order it in my currency?

id order from Amazon but honestly for year models it’s hard to tell which one is which. If not I’ll see if I can get the local ME to ship it in.

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/qbK2FT/seasonic-focus-650-w-80-gold-certified-semi-modular-atx-power-supply-focus-gm-650 pretty sure the ones with GM in the name are the newer updated units, you can ask @LukeSavenije if you're not sure.

PcPartPicker.com has a Canada option

well... most of us (excluding Stefan, he has even done some reviews in the past) don't test them personally at the time of writing, as we take data from other reviewers, but that aside

also, quick note with the new GM (and other focus series), they might start to make a weird sound when loading a game or something, this is common on current 2.52 meeting PSUs, and it's nothing dangerous

Hmm alright, would you say that it is the same thing that my current psu is making?

similar, but the sound i'm talking about is more high-pitched

what your psu is possibly making is coil whine, due to an overloaded transformer. which is nothing dangerous, but it can be annoying, though i should note that this would be one of the first times i'd see it happening with a 580
