Hello I am currently in a little bit of a self debate and looking for suggestions. SO my current GPU is now a fast aging GTX 970 I am looking to upgrade it soon, the only thing holding me back is next gen consoles. I want to upgrade my GPU that will at least par with next gen consoles or better exceed them. the rest of my system is already pretty decent except the ryzen 1200 CPU. Not sure if I should hold out longer for both pricing and next gen GPU's or just upgrade to something like a RX 5700 XT.

You could wait a little bit for new cards to come out, see what performance to price ratio they have, and see if other good cards come down in cost as a result. It's up to you and the 970 is still pretty decent.

Ryzen 3600 @4.3ghz stock voltage, Rx 580 @1460mhz core @2150mhz Mem, Asus Prime x570-p, G.Skill TridentZ Neo 3600mhz Cl 16-17-17-37

That all depends on your budget.

Is there a budget limit? if no then the answer is simple.. you can already buy a GPU that will be better than next gen consoles (everything above a RTX 2070 super will do the trick)

If there is a budget limit though then it depends because also new GPUs are on the corner and hopefully they will decrease the pricetag of current ones (I say hopefully because lately prices on tech in general have gone crazy smartphones that cost over 1000 euro entry level GPUs touching or exceeding 300 euro etc :P

In case there is a budget limit you should also keep in mind potential bottlenecks since you mentioned you have a GTX 970 so there is a chance that your CPU (incase its from that generation and was not a flagship one) could bottleneck the card you are aiming to buy.

Thanks for the reply Yes I am limited cash wise for the minute, not sure for how much longer, I guess the best course will be just to hold out and increase my budget. At least I know what region of GPU i need to aim for when I upgrade. Ill hopefully exceed that, Don't want to give my console buddies the idea their new console will oust my new PC haha.

You're close enough that I'd just wait. Worst case scenario: you've waited, and get the same thing. Best case: you either get a significantly cheaper, better card used, or new. It really doesn't make sense not to wait, since we're only a few months away. The 970 is a little painful but if you lower settings a bit you should be fine in most titles. Plus waiting you should be able to save enough to ditch that CPU at the same time ;)
