I have a friend who wants to play Destiny 2 on high settings at over 100 fps. Currently he has an AMD FX processor and a 750ti... so I suggested we build him a new computer. He doesn't have the highest budget, and we'll probably reuse the power supply and case he has.

I was thinking of a Ryzen 5 2600 and RX 5500 XT paired with a B450 motherboard and 16gb Corsair Vengeance LPX @ 3000mhz. Would that be god enough for what he wants? Any suggestions to improve these specs?

I have an i5 4670k, 16GB 1066mhz, Z97 mobo and a GTX1060 6GB, I run at highest setting and i get around 75fps. Why doesn't he just go with decent FPS, why over 100fps? XD

I struggle to get destiny 2 with 100 FPS with my Ryzen 3600 and GTX 1070 at max settings. Just a heads up on that.

Be sure to @Pickles von Brine if you want me to see your reply!

He got a 120hz monitor recently and his current computer runs the game at 40-50 fps on low/medium settings. I was thinking that with better specs he could get decent framerates whilenqlso leaving it open for upgrades in the future...

He's okay with running it on medium settings, it's just that he has a new 120hz monitor and wants to utilize it more than just running at 40-50 fps...
