Which GPU?

Go to solution Solved by Faa,

What is micro-stutter and what makes it happen? (i know, sli makes it happen, but it isnt on all sli so what makes it happen)

Irregular rendering delays or too much fluactuations between the rendering times eg from 100ms to 10ms then 250ms then 1000ms then 350ms then 10 ms. Even if you have amazing fps it still can feel choppy.

I am going to be building a rig for high quality gaming and some video editing. It is going to have a 4770K and I can't decide on GPUs.

Please don't tell me about something else being better, I would appreciate if you guys would just answer my questions.

1) What will give me more performance dual 780s or a single 780 ti?

2) How much better is dual 780 ti's over dual 780s?

3) Is the above difference worth the 500 dollars?

the dual 780s would give you more performance, but you probably would only need a single card for what you are doing. just get a single 780 and you should be fine

Unless you plan on gaming at a resolution higher than 1440p then a single 780 will be more than enough horsepower. Also keep in mind that a 280x will be better for rendering but also is more expensive and less performance.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

No offense, but do you guys even read, just answer the questions

No   http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1063?vs=1072 but I would still suggest a single card over SLI because as you can see sometimes the two 780s beat the 780ti, but sometimes it's the other way around.

CPU: Intel i5 4670(non K) Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8Gb (2x4Gb) @1600Mhz HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 OC WF3 ~1293Mhz max boost clock~ PSU: Corsair RM 750 Case: Corsair 300R Windowed Edition OS: Windows 8.1

1) Dual 780s would be more performance and more money.

2) Dual 780ti arent that much better since the Ti is a slight improvement from the 780s

3) Its not worth it. The 780 will max out enough games and it will render great for the money.

thanks for answering the questions epicgeek, and thanks for the benchmarks NPC

It really all depends on what games you play to whether or not it's better. I wouldn't think its worth 300$ more myself and SLI has its disadvantages such as, microstutter, Vram doesn't stack(you will still only be able to use 3gb, not 6gb so that could limit you if you play at extreme resolutions), and some games don't even support SLI. But if you play games that were on those benchmarks and think its worth the extra $300 then by all means go with SLI. I just like using a single card over two whenever possible.

Dual 780s will whoop a single 780Ti if you don't require huge loads of VRAM. Since putting two cards in SLi only gives you the usable VRAM of one card. That's why in those benchmarks they're much more closer together.

MARS 760 is pretty nice.
